Happy New Year!

Picture
I hope that you have enjoyed the past few weeks with family and friends.  Now it is time to return to routine and I am excited about getting back to school.  We have some exciting learning opportunities planned for January.  This month Mr. Armitage will be working with us as our artist in residence.  Students will be writing a song with him that they will perform at the end of the month.  I will keep you posted as the specific times and dates become available.  The Grade Five students have another ski trip on January 26.  Please watch for forms to come home.  As our images allude to, we will be working with Smarties during the next few weeks.  We will have to exercise self control (not to eat them) as we use the sweet treats to learn about statistics, probability, fractions, percentages, graphing, and chemistry.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please write a note in your child's agenda, email me at terrilynn.emms@wrsd.ca or call me at the school.

Working together for your child's success,
Terri-Lynn Emms

Dec. 19 - 23
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe, but the last week of school for 2011 has arrived.  We have an exciting week planned for students.

Our musical, A Teddy Bear Christmas, is this week.  The students have been working very hard on learning the songs, actions, and speaking parts.  The school has a new sound system as well, so I’m sure the concert will be very enjoyable.  Our dress rehearsal for the concert is Tuesday at noon.   Parents of Grades 3-5 students are invited to attend on Friday at noon.  We are gratefully accepting donations for the food bank.  If you wish to donate, you may bring items to the concert or your child may bring them to school this week.

The Grade 5 ski trip is on Wednesday. We will be leaving at 9:30 and returning by 4:45. Students need to have a ride waiting for them if they don’t walk home. Students must be prepared for cold weather with snow pants, long underwear, mittens, winter jacket, and toque.   Helmets are required, so please ensure that your child brings theirs if they have not rented one.  Please make sure they have a water bottle and lunch. There is a cafeteria with food available but it is expensive.  Please go over the rules and responsibilities information sheet with your child. We look forward to a great trip. If you volunteered for this trip, thank you and we will see you at the school by 9. The next trip is January 26.

We will be having a class party on Thursday afternoon.  If you would like to donate a snack, please write a note in your child’s agenda.

I wish you and yours a safe and joyous Christmas and New Year.

Working with you to support your child’s learning,

Mrs. Terri-Lynn Emms

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you know, my due date is quickly approaching. It is with mixed emotions that I am letting you know my final day of work will be Friday, December 2nd, which is a PD Day. This makes my last day with students next Thursday, December 1st. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching your child this year. We have a wonderful group of students who have developed a special classroom community. Therefore, it is somewhat bittersweet for me to be leaving my position to embark on this exciting new journey of motherhood.

However, I am thrilled to let you know that Mrs. Terri Emms has been hired to take over for me, commencing Monday, December 5th. Mrs. Emms will be joining us for parent/student/teacher interviews over the next two weeks, so you will have a chance to meet her then. The students know her well, as she has subbed in our classroom several times throughout the school year. Mrs. Emms has experience teaching in combination grade classrooms and is very enthusiastic about continuing the wonderful things that have been happening in our classroom, such as Smart Learning. I am confident that the rest of the school year will be just as great as the first term has been.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for how we can make this transition as smooth as possible for your child, please feel free to contact me at 403-845-3721 or amanda.barrett@wrsd.ca

I am looking forward to seeing you at interviews on Thursday, November 24th or Tuesday November 29th. Just a reminder, if your scheduled time does not work for you, please check out our class website for other available times and then write me a note in your child’s agendas. I will be happy to accommodate you the best I can.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Amanda Barrett
